Francis Orpen Morris
Irish (1810-1893)
A Natural History of the Nests & Eggs of British Birds
3 Volumes
Rev. Morris, Vicar of Napperton, was a prolific writer of natural history, as well as religion. He wrote the following books, as well as the above: The History of British Birds & A Natural History of British Butterflies, and several other historical and natural history books. He assisted Charles Knight, who was a printer and who experimented printing with color on wood-blocks. In addition, hand coloring was often added to some of the plates. Morris supplied the text. The work was published in a subscription series which was issued in monthly parts from 1853 - 1856, very simular to today's monthly magazine subscriptions. Subsequently, the series could be bound in leather or cloth. This was a publishing option for the subscriber, often used in the mid-nineteenth century, both in England and in America.
