David Roberts

(1796-1864)
 
David Roberts was aware of the increasing interest in the Near East through  those on the "Grand Tour." Others at home were eager to see the views of ruins and holy places that were depicted in Robert's prints. The Sketches in the Holy Land and Syria, Idumea, and Arabia (1842-1849) and The Egypt & Nubia (1846-49) were done during his travels in these areas.The first edition of both these works were printed in tints, plates with titles, and dates from Robert's Journal.  These prints offered below are all from the first edition 1848-1849.
